Matt Dillon

Position: Director of Internet Sales

Brief description of what you do for Coughlin: I head up our online marketing and sales efforts.  This includes out website, CoughlinCars.com, Autotrader.com, eBay, the list goes on.  I also help each store set-up their Internet Sales Departments with staff training and follow-up systems.  From there I simply help on any other items I can that Al or Mike need help with.

Length of time with Coughlin Automotive: I was hired on 10/10/05, so just about eight and a half years now.

What is the most rewarding part of your job? There are two items that I find truly rewarding.

The first is trying to keep up with the ever changing online market.  There is just so much out there for consumers and I like trying to keep us fresh—hint, we will have a brand new CoughlinCars.com this month!

The second is that I love being able to help people, and by travelling to all of our locations, it seems I get to help someone every day.  I love helping to solve a problem, find a solution.

What is the most challenging part of your job?
Same as the first one that is rewarding—just trying to stay up on all of the changing online world.  Well, that and trying to get ten dealerships moving in one direction.  There are a lot of moving parts, a lot of people to communicate with.  When it all comes together, it's pretty awesome!

What do you like best about Coughlin Automotive? The people, plain and simple.

What are your hobbies outside of work? I enjoy having my wife beat me in every one of the Coughlin 5k races that Pataskala puts on.  I love to ride a motorcycle when the weather is nice.  I am a certified car nut, so I hate to admit that I get to bring that hobby to work with me—to date I have now had 45 automobiles and motorcycles.  I love to golf, watch the Chicago Bears loose and finding the best food and drink in every big city I can get to.

What advice do you have for a new employee at Coughlin? Figure out who the #1 person in your department is and just do what they do.   Trying to reinvent the wheel is difficulty, and if it rolls perfectly, why waste the energy.  It is amazing what you can learn from the best, and trust me, they will all tell you why they are the best, try to listen.

The most important item, however, is this; make the time and make the effort to get to know everyone at the dealership where you work.  Step out of your bubble and get to know your office staff, service advisors, technicians, parts associates, lot technicians and sales people.  Trust me, you will like the people that you work with—in all departments!
